The G-quadruplex Team (G4Team) is integrated in Clinical Translation on Drug Targets and Innovative Biomedicines Group of RISE-Health research centre, located in Faculty of Health Sciences of the University of Beira Interior (UBI), Covilhã, Portugal.

This team is composed by researchers with strong background in different complementary areas such as chemistry, biotechnology, biochemistry and biomedical sciences.

Currently, the focus of Cruz's group is divided in principal research areas:

1. Design and synthesis of G-quadruplex ligands;

2. Biophysical characterization of non-canonical nucleic acids structures;

3. Oligonucleotide-based therapeutics for cancer;

4. Screening of miRNAs as novel cancer biomarkers.
